Intoduction to Prasuti tantra and Stri roga :

Description about Prasuti tantra and striroga comes under the branch of Kaumarabhritya of ashtanga ayurveda.

-गर्भोपक्रंविग्यान सुतिकोपक्रमस्तथा |

बालानां रोगशमनी क्रिया बालचिकित्सितं || (ह.स.प्रथम.सूत्र.२/१६)

Acharya Harita has explained that the terms Garbhopakramvignan, sutikopakramavignana and bala rogashamana comes under bala chikitsa.

-कौमारभ्रित्यं नाम कुमरभरण धात्री क्षीर दोष संशोधनर्थं |

दुष्ट स्तन्यग्रहसमुथनन्च व्यधिनामुपशंनार्थं || (सू,सू. १/१३)

-कुमारस्य भरणमाधिकृत्य कृतं कौमारभृत्यं || (च.सू.३०/२८)- च.टिका

The terms related to Kumara Bharana comes under Kaumarabhritya.

Here, Bharana(भरण) means - Delivery of baby. protecting it, giving shelter, nourishing it, receiving it, carrying it ( like embryo in the uterus).

Prasuti tantra (प्रसूति तन्त्र) ( obstetrics)

Nirukti (निरुक्ति)-

प्रसूति = प्र + सू + क्तिन् -> -प्रसर्जन,जनन,प्रसव,जन्म देना, गर्भ पोषण.

तन्त्र - विज्ञान (science), शस्त्र, सिद्धान्त.

Branch of medical science which deals with pregnancy, child birth and post partum period is called obstetrics.

Stri Nirukti (स्त्री निरुक्ति) -

सत्यै + द्रत + डीप

अर्थात - पुन्ज रूप मे एकर्तित करना

परिभाषा :

1) संचियते शुक्र शोणिते अस्यां सा स्त्री |

The person in whom the sanchaya of shukra and shonita happens is called stri.

2) स्त्रीति स्त्यायति गर्भो अस्याम् |

The one who does the vahan (dharan) of garbha is called stri.

3) स्त्री : female- the one who carries the fertile ovum.
