Dushi Visha (दूषि विष) (Improvised weak Poison)

Dushi visha

The Visha that causes दूषण (Impure/processing the property to vitiate) is called dushi visha.

Visha having less potency is called Dushi Visha.

Definition (परिभाषा)

दूषितं देशकालान्नदिवस्वप्नैरभिश्नशः : | यस्माद् दुषयते धातून तस्माद् दुषिविषं स्मृतं || (सु.क. 2/33)

A constant exposure to particular desha (A place meant a अनुपदेश, प्रभूत अनिल , शीत), काल (शीत, अनिल, दुर्दिन), अन्न (सुरा, कुलत्था, तिल ), अपथ्य आहर सेवन and दिवस्वप्न or अपथ्य विहार tends to vitiate dhatu of the body and this poison is consequently known as dushi visha.

Nidana (निदान) -Etiology

Incompatible place and season, contaminated food and activities, excessive exercise, more anger, day sleeping, due alcohol and horse gram (Kulatha) because of these factors presence of dushi visha again vitiates dhatus.

Prodromal features (पुर्वरुप)

  • Sleepiness
  • Heaviness of body
  • Excess Yawning
  • Difficult in movement of joints
  • Horripilation and Body ache.

Features (rupa- रूप)

तेनार्दितो भिन्नपुरिषवर्णो दुष्टन्नरोगी तृदरोचकार्ता : | मुर्छन वमन् गद्रदवां विमुह्यन भवेच्च दुष्योदरलिङ्गजुष्ट : || (अ.हृ उ. ३५/३४)

The person troubled by this will develop color of feacal matter changes, विदन्ध वैरस्य (loss of taste), मुखः पिपासि (Suffer from thirst), मूर्च्छन (fainting), वमन (vomiting), गद् गद् वाक् (Stammering speech) are the dushyodara lakshanas.

Prognosis (सध्यासध्यता)

It is sadhya when it is of acute origin , strength of patient and disease is mild.

Yapya (याप्य) - if it is more than a year

If chronic and the person practices more मिथ्य आहर-विहार then it is Asadhya .

Treatment (चिकित्सा) -

  1. Shodhana (शोधन) - उर्ध्व and अध शोधन (emectics and purgation) after स्वेदन The following agada should be taken daily.
  2. Agadapana (अगदपान) - दुषिविशरि अगद ( सु and अ.)

पिप्पल्यो ध्यमकं मांसि लोद्र एला सुवर्चिक कटनट नटंकुष्ट यष्टि चन्दन गैरिक दुषिविशरि नाम्नायं न चान्यत्रापि वार्यते || (अ.सं. )

2 pippali (laghu and bruhat), dhyamaka, jatamamsim lodhra, ela (sukshma), suarchika lavana, kuntanata, nata (tagara), kushta, yashti, chandana, gairika are taken and made into vati, kashaya or churna prepared wtih honey.

स्नेहपान - पञ्च्तिक्तादि घृत can be used.
