Introduction to Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL)
It is a wing of the Indian Ministry of Home Affairs, which fulfills the forensic requirements in the country. There are 4 central FSL in India :
- Kolkata
- Hyderabad
- Chandigarh
- New Delhi
CFSL Kolkata is the oldest full fledged FSL in India established in 1952 by upgrading the chemical examiner lab started in 1840's. Kolkata is now Centre of excellence in biological sciences, CFSL Hyderabad in chemical sciences. The laboratory in New Delhi is under the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Today, the most of the states in India have full fledged Forensic Science Laboratory.
